How do I keep Meta from banning my WhatsApp number?
Warm the number up for a few days before you connect it, use it the way a person uses WhatsApp, and don't blast a thousand messages on day one. Most takedowns hit new numbers with high volume and no history.
The short answer: a new number has no history, and WhatsApp treats the absence of history as a risk signal. If that number starts sending hundreds of messages the same day it was registered, what WhatsApp sees is exactly the shape of a spam campaign — even if every message you send is legitimate.
Warm the number up BEFORE you connect it
This is what works best and what almost nobody does. For a week beforehand, use the number the way a person would use it:
- Let people message you. Friends, family and real customers writing to you, and you replying. Back-and-forth conversations are the strongest signal that there is a human on this end.
- Make and take calls from that number.
- Join a group and take part in it.
- Get saved. Have the number stored in other people's address books — it is one of the signals WhatsApp looks at.
- Send nothing in bulk. No broadcast lists, no identical text to twenty contacts.
And once you connect it, ramp up slowly
Don't send your target volume on day one. Start with a fraction and build up over the first week. Meta has its own limit ladder (250 → 2,000 → 10,000 → 100,000 → unlimited new people per day) and you climb it by behaving well; pushing does not speed it up, it breaks it.
⚠ The limit nobody hears about until they hit it
WhatsApp allows 10 verification-code requests in 72 hours for the same number. If you're testing, migrating from another provider, or you mistyped it three times, they are very easy to burn — and then you wait. It is not a ban, but it feels like one: the number is unusable for days.
What actually drops your quality rating
Meta rates your number green / yellow / red, and the rating drops almost always for one reason: people blocking or reporting you. That happens when you message someone first who wasn't expecting you.
- Send templates only to people who expect them — someone who gave you their number for that purpose.
- Honour opt-outs. If someone tells you to stop, stop. WhatsApp records it.
- Don't repeat the same message to many different people in a short window.
- If quality drops, a few quiet days bring it back on their own. Pushing sinks it.
If it's already been taken down
Reconnecting won't fix it, and no platform can: the decision is WhatsApp's and it is appealed from your own Meta account, in WhatsApp Manager. The reason is there and, where allowed, the button to request a review. If the takedown stands, you'll need a different number — and this time, a warmed-up one.
