How many messages can I send from a brand-new number?

First: they are TWO different limits

How many people you message first is Meta's limit. It starts at 250 distinct contacts every 24 hours and climbs a ladder: 250 → 2,000 → 10,000 → 100,000 → unlimited. Only people you start the conversation with count; replying inside an open window doesn't count at all.

How fast messages go out is a separate thing: Meta allows up to 80 per second per number on the Cloud API (up to 1,000 with the automatic upgrade), and a number on Coexistence has a fixed pace of 20 per second.

And on whatever platform you use, ask whether there's a quantity cap. Here there isn't: what defines the plan is how many numbers you connect, not how many messages you send.

How you climb a rung

There are three routes, and it pays to know them because most people only know the first:

• Verify your business with Meta (Business Verification), from your Business Manager.
• Have a Meta partner verify your business for you.
• Deliver 2,000 messages to distinct people in 30 days with good-quality templates. Volume done right climbs on its own.

⚠ Since October 2025 the limit is per PORTFOLIO, not per number

If you have three numbers in the same business portfolio, all three share one limit. Each number used to have its own. If you manage numbers for several customers, that changes your maths — and it's the most expensive sizing mistake we see.

And on a brand-new number, none of those is your real limit

Meta's ceiling says what it will LET you do. What you should actually do with a freshly registered number is quite a bit less, for the reason explained in how to keep Meta from banning your number: high volume on a number with no history is the exact shape of spam.
