Is Coexistence available in my country?

Almost certainly yes. Coexistence works with numbers from almost every country. The exceptions: according to official Meta partners, Nigeria (+234) and South Africa (+27) —where the alternative is the Cloud API— and the sanctioned places (Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Syria, Crimea, Donetsk and Luhansk), where neither works.

Frequently asked questions

Is Coexistence available in my country?

Almost certainly yes. Meta does not publish a list of countries: its Coexistence documentation excludes none. Its official partners (Infobip and 8x8) report that it is not available for numbers from Nigeria (+234) and South Africa (+27). And in the sanctioned places (Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Syria, Crimea, Donetsk and Luhansk) the whole platform doesn't work. Outside of that, it's available.

Can I connect my WhatsApp Business app if my number is from Nigeria or South Africa?

Not through Coexistence today. According to Infobip and 8x8, official Meta partners, app onboarding is not supported for numbers registered in Nigeria and South Africa; Meta doesn't say it in its documentation. You can use the Cloud API: with a new number, or with the same number after deleting it from the app.

What's my alternative if Coexistence isn't available?

Meta's Cloud API, with a new number or with the same number after deleting its account from the WhatsApp Business app.

  • What you gain: the number lives only in the API: it doesn't depend on someone opening the app on the phone, and it doesn't have the fixed pace of 20 messages per second Meta sets for Coexistence numbers.
  • What you lose: the number is no longer used on the phone, the app's history doesn't move to the API, and you reply from your own system.

In the sanctioned places there is no alternative: neither works.

Do I lose my chats if I move to the Cloud API?

The app's chats, yes: to move the same number to the Cloud API you have to delete it from the app, and that history doesn't move to the API. If you want to keep them, save them first from the app («Export chat»). With Coexistence, on the other hand, Meta lets you sync up to 6 months (180 days) of history.

Why doesn't my country show up in Meta's selector?

If it's Cuba, Iran, North Korea or Syria, or your company is in Crimea, Donetsk or Luhansk, it's because of sanctions: Meta doesn't let businesses in those places use the WhatsApp Business Platform, and users there don't receive messages sent through the platform either. If your country isn't one of those, it isn't a country restriction: see our help.

Does it matter where my company is, or the number's country code?

For Coexistence, what counts is the number's country code: Meta partners talk about numbers «registered in» Nigeria and South Africa. A South African company with a number from another country doesn't have that restriction; a company from another country with a +27 number does. Sanctions, on the other hand, Meta applies to businesses in those places and to the users who are there.

Can I message customers in other countries?

Yes, any country, except users in the sanctioned places (Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Syria, Crimea, Donetsk and Luhansk): Meta says they don't receive messages from the platform. Nigeria and South Africa don't have that problem: what isn't available is connecting a number from there through Coexistence, not messaging people there. Türkiye stopped being restricted on 15/05/2024.

Since when does it work in Europe, the UK, India, Japan, Australia…?

According to Meta's changelog:

  • 11/02/2025 — Meta launches Coexistence: onboarding WhatsApp Business app users through Embedded Signup.
  • 05/05/2025 — India.
  • 23/10/2025 — Australia, Japan, Philippines, Russia, South Korea, Türkiye, European Economic Area, European Union and United Kingdom.

What are the requirements of Coexistence?

According to Meta's documentation:

  • The WhatsApp Business app, version 2.24.17 or later.
  • Open the app on the primary phone at least every 13 days (Meta talks about roughly 14 days without activity before disconnecting it; 360dialog, a Meta partner, recommends 13).
  • Groups are not synced and broadcast lists are disabled.
  • In 1:1 chats, disappearing messages, «view once» and live location are turned off.
  • All linked devices work except WhatsApp for Windows and for WearOS.
  • Fixed pace of 20 messages per second.
  • History: up to 6 months (180 days), and there are 24 hours to sync it; media, only from the last 14 days.
  • Calls don't go through the API.

What happens if Meta enables my country later?

From that day on, Coexistence onboarding for a number from your country works like in any other. We review the sources every month and note it here, with the date.

My number is on regular WhatsApp (not Business): does it work for Coexistence?

Not as is: Coexistence connects a number that is on the WhatsApp Business app. If it's on regular WhatsApp, Meta stops the onboarding with a message like «This phone number is already registered to a WhatsApp account». Move it to the WhatsApp Business app first (version 2.24.17 or later), or use the Cloud API.

How do I know this information is up to date?

At the very top is the date we verified it against each source (22/10/2026). We review it every month; the next one, on 21/11/2026. The sources are at the bottom: what Meta says, separate from what its partners report.
